This year's deals with social media on siting and relevance. Believe it or not, are people willing to share their whereabouts and would like to tell their friends and family where they are almost directly thanks to software available on smart phones Android phones (I use a Nexus one yourself in 2 weeks now), iPhone, BlackBerry, and others.
The concept is simple. Your mobile device can tell the world where you are and you can "check in" in places you are right now.Usually are people willing to share points of interest such as restaurants, bars, hotels, attractions, but also less interesting places at first to airports or rail stations; eventually may be that another good friend is also at Heathrow Terminal 5, so why not with a cup of coffee, rather than being on your own "await boarding gate.
Today there are 2 clearly players in location-based online services: Gowalla and Foursquare; both companies began almost around the same time, if you want to have some background on how these two companies have created and how their founder Josh Williams and Dennis Crowley found the idea, I would advise to read saga of the magazine tech wired here.
I have experienced myself Foursquare for more than 2 weeks since my purchase of a Nexus one running on Android, mobile phone operating system engineered by Google.
And I must say I have grown accustomed to in the application very quickly, and "check in" seems natural for me now, but my wife is saying that I am a nerd, so perhaps Foursquare is not safe for all.
This does not mean that you-the owner of the hotel, restaurant owners, bar owner-not should pay attention to this new online community (remember how we don't pay attention to Twitter before).
Reason: phenomenal growth over the past 12 months that do not seem to slow down (2 million users this month), see statistics from compete.com below.
But also Foursquare (and probably Gowalla) gives greater proximity with your customers and have this megaphone effect that leads to the operator to offer these guys something special, if they keep coming back to your property.
Also remember that Foursquare is also a bit of the game for users to keep checking in, you can collect badges and become a mayor in a specific location if you check in often on these sites.
So cool a bit more what Foursquare can really do to hotels, restaurants, I discovered that allows entrepreneurs Foursquare register themselves; This is how it works.
# 1-find your property
# 2 Have a look at how many people are checked in and what they say about your property (see the little note about blueberry muffins from Dj J.)
# 3 Register your property to the right where it says "are you sure you want to manage this site? Claim"
You would need to register first on Foursquare.
What is the first benefits of fort hotel, restaurant, bar owner?
# 4 follow the steps to register your owner property and verify that you are using a professional account and not your personal steadfastly account. all of your colleagues or your customers would otherwise know what to do on weekends, and so on.
I know no more than 15 minutes, I would think, you can create your account, register your property and are ready to create offers and all this for free.
Feel free to share your experience with Foursquare; I look forward to hearing your feedback, and please be patient as this company is still young, and the audience is relatively small for now.
If your hotel in places where Foursquare uses quite extensively as London, New York, San Francisco ...Try it now. "Don't wait until your competitor does.
Disclaimer: I don't work for Foursquare does not have shares in the company despite the fact that I am pleased to be a part (Dennis, are you listening?)
